📖 About This Project
"I kinda just like stats and data innit"
– Borty, 2024
Who I Am
Hey, I'm Nathan Borton, a 20-year-old from New Zealand who’s proudly represented NZ multiple times in orienteering, including at JWOC and WOC.
I studied data science at university, and I've always had a passion for numbers. Over the past few years, I've fallen in love with statistics - especially in sport and performance analysis.

Why I Built This
I've always felt like orienteering was missing serious performance analysis tools, detailed archives, and a real way to look back at results properly.
So I decided to build the tools I wish we had, from stats and databases to head-to-head comparisons and deep-dive performance tracking.
This project is about bringing orienteering's data to life and creating the resources our sport deserves.
Whilst much of this is very much still a work in development, I like to think I at least have a lot of minimally viable tools available to athletes, fans (and hopefully soon coaches...)
which I will continue to develop and work on, especially since I know a lot of people are interested in what is possible.
What I Do Now
I work full-time as a data engineer during the week while still training and competing as an (aspiring) elite athlete. Apart from this project I actually have no experience in frontend code or website development. My confidence is in Python and backend function design so this whole project is definitely stepping out of my comfort zone! But regardless of what I feel I am good at, whenever I get the chance, I'm back here, building more tools, adding new features, and making this project better for anyone and everyone who loves orienteering as much as I do.
